Big Bang (Hangul: 빅뱅) is a South Korean boy band formed by YG Entertainment. The group officially debuted on August 19, 2006 with five members, namely G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang, Daesung and Seungri. Dominated by the hip hop stream, their debut was quite successful with the first album Bigbang Vol.1 which sold as many as 48,000 copies. Their success darted after the release of their first mini album, Always, with the single "Lies" (Hangul: 거짓말; RR: Geojitmal). The song dominated the Korean charts for seven consecutive weeks and brought the group to the 'Song of the Year' award at the 2007 Mnet Korean Music Festival.

Their next mini album also follows the success of the previous album, Hot Issue with the single "Last Farewell" (Hangul: 마지막 인사; RR: Majemak Insa) and Stand Up with the single "Day by Day" (Hangul: 하루 하루; RR: Haru Haru) . After receiving the 'Artist of the Year' award at the Mnet Korean Music Festival 2008, the same year the group expanded to Japan with the release of Remember's second Korean album and the first Japanese album Number 1 and won three awards at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan -9. In the middle of their promotion in Japan, the members started their solo activities: Taeyang and G-Dragon released solo albums, G-Dragon and TOP formed GD & TOP subunits, Seungri and Daesung performed in musical theater and hosted on TV , and TOP starred in several movies and television shows.
