Santuário Santa Filomena SP

The year 2015 will be unforgettable in the history of the Archdiocese of Sorocaba. The Parish of São José Operário, by the inspiration of Espírito Santo, won another Community. The story, besides being emotional, represents in its details how the divine intervention was present in a family, parishioners and parish priest Wilson Roberto dos Santos.

It all started in Sorocaba. SP, at the Castelhano family home. Sandro's parents, Edna and Antônio Carlos Castelhano talked to their son about a desire to form a new community in Jardim Abaeté, a place within the parish of São José Operário. From this family dialogue, the name of Santa Filomena emerged to be the patron saint of the community. The pieces were fitting into the inspiration, but a main piece was missing. Take the proposal to the pastor and convince him to create the new community. The idea had already been carried forward to the other parishioners and neighbors who lived in Jardim Abaeté and surroundings, and in particular to a couple who were friends of the Castelhano family, Rosa de Cássia and José Moreira.

A few thousand kilometers from Brazil (9,600 km), Father Wilson Roberto went on a pilgrimage to Italy. And it was in that country, where the sanctuary of the Mugnano city, dedicated to Saint Philomena, was where inspiration took place in the heart of the priest, which consolidated a dream into reality. Impressed by the place and history of the saint, Father Wilson thought: “If I form a new community, it will be called Santa Filomena”.
