How to Use Digital Multimeter Uses and Functions
Every fixer should know their way around a multimeter, which has just north of a zillion uses for testing electronic components and circuits. Follow along to master the three most basic functions of a multimeter.
A multimeter, also called a volt-ohm meter or VOM, is a device that measures resistance, voltage and current in electronic circuits. Some also test diodes and continuity. Multimeters are small, lightweight and battery operated, and they can test a wide variety of electronic components in many situations, making them indispensable tools for anyone who needs to test and repair electronic circuits.
A digital multimeter or DMM is a useful instrument for measuring voltage, current and resistance, and some meters have a facility for testing transistors and capacitors. You can also use it for checking continuity of wires and fuses. If you like to DIY, do car maintenance or troubleshoot electronic or electrical equipment, a multimeter is a handy accessory to have in your home toolkit.
