Salmo 74

1 Why hast thou rejected us, O God? Why is your anger kindled against the sheep of your pasture?

2 Remember the people that thou hast acquired in former times, the tribe of thy inheritance which thou hast redeemed, from mount Zion where thou didst dwell.

3 Turn your steps to those irreparable ruins, to all the destruction that the enemy has caused in your sanctuary.

4 Thy adversaries shouted triumphantly at the place where you were with us, and raised their flags in victory.

5 They looked like men armed with axes invading a thick forest.

6 With their axes and axes they crushed all the carved wooden coverings.

7 They have set your sanctuary on fire; They have profaned the dwelling place of your name.

8 They said in their hearts, "Let us finish them!" They have burned all the sanctuaries of the country.

9 We no longer see miraculous signs; There are no more prophets, and none of us know how long this will continue.

10 How long will the adversary mock, O God? Will the enemy blaspheme your name forever?

11 Why do you hold your hand, your right hand? Don't be idle! Destroy them!

12 But you, O God, are my king from ancient times; bring salvation upon the earth.

13 Thou didst divide the sea by thy power; You have broken the heads of the water serpents.

14 Thou hast crushed the heads of Leviathan, and gave it to the creatures of the desert for food.

15 Thou hast opened fountains and streams; You have dried up everlasting rivers.

16 The day is yours, and yours is also the night; You set the sun and the moon.

17 Thou hast determined all the borders of the earth; You made summer and winter.

18 Remember how the enemy has mocked you, O Lord, how foolish have blasphemed your name.

19 Do not give the life of your dove to wild animals; Do not forget the life of your defenseless people forever.

20 Take heed to your covenant, for the dens of the country are filled with darkness.

21 Do not let the oppressed retire in humility! Have the poor and needy praise your name.

22 Arise, O God, and defend your cause; Remember how fools make fun of you without ceasing.

23 Do not ignore the shouting of your enemies, the growing tumult of your enemies.
