As if he became a trend of worship that once a year carried out. But not many people contemplate / examine the secrets of the meaning contained in the term "breaking the fast".

For most of us, breaking the fast is presented in the form of a wide variety of foods and drinks barely found in other months. As if he was a great event to entertain special guests, seem luxurious. In every home, even mosques or mosques, each shows its ability to meet its biological needs. Yet fasting should have more implications for the formation of mental control of lust. But it seems that the orientation is not visible at all. Enjoyment is the jasadiah pleasure that actually closes the spiritual pleasure that should be manifested in gratitude.

In Arabic, breaking the fast is called futhur or ifthar. The form of mashdar (noun) from the root of the fathara verb. Futhur is also used for breakfast. Etymologically, the word futhur comes from the letter fa tha and ra. The letters are also the source of the word fithrah which means holiness. So, futhur with fithrah comes from one source ie fa tha ra which means is holiness.

Futhur in the sense of a fasting person means "break the fast". The term iftar is to be understood in an essential way not by syar'i. If the iftar understanding ceases in the sense of shari'ah, then breaking the fast is meaningless except to break the fast by eating / drinking at the time of maghrib. The orientation is only biological, jasadiyah.

Typically, the open term is more identical as a start, not a symbol denoting a termination. However, in general terms, the term "open" is defined as a cover of fasting. If not examined in more depth, the iftar is very ironic. Indonesian choosing an iftar for fasting cancellation at the time of maghrib is not without meaning.

The Messenger of Allah said:

للصآئم فرحتان: فرحة عند الفطور وفرحة عند لقآء ربه.

There are two happiness for the fasting man; Happiness in the open and happiness when meeting God.

In the Hadith, the happiness of the fast is harmonized with the happiness of meeting God. Happiness to meet God is spiritual, then blessed happiness is also a spiritual happiness. Not available if spiritual happiness is attributed to the fulfillment of the body's needs, let alone connected with the happiness of meeting the Lord. There is something else than iftar that should be studied more deeply than just the fulfillment of the body.

The breaking of the fast which is done in the early evening (maghrib) is closely related to the dark state of nature. The term "open" indicates a disclosure of something closed (shaded). Meanwhile, when breaking the falls at the beginning of the darkness of the night that symbolizes the closing of all visions. The meaning of the moment of maghrib is the beginning of the closing of all material appearances because the daylight has come to an end. So, the darkness of the night is a symbol of closure.
