Wind Meter

Wind Meter is a wind speed meter and anemometer for your phone with gust alerts and a home-screen widget. Check the forecast wind, gusts and direction for your place, or estimate the wind across the phone microphone, then press Stop to save the session and see a result card.

LIVE WIND

• Forecast wind, gust and direction for your current location or a chosen city (Open-Meteo data)

• Beaufort gauge with sustained speed, peak gust and pressure

• km/h, mph, knots or m/s

• A big Start button right under the gauge; tapping the gauge works too

RESULT CARD

Start, then Stop. Sessions of at least 3 seconds with readings are saved to the gust log (last 50), and the card then shows peak gust, average speed, Beaufort class and duration, marked as forecast or mic estimate. Export the log as CSV; the statistics CSV of all sessions unlocks for 24 hours after a short ad.

GUST ALERTS

Pick a gust threshold (5 km/h steps). When the forecast shows gusts at or above it you get a notification such as "Gusts up to 32 km/h forecast at 3:00 PM". The forecast for the coming hour is checked on every update, and also in periodic background refreshes when your phone allows them.

HOME-SCREEN WIDGET

Place the Wind Meter widget on your home screen: forecast wind, gusts and direction, the forecast hour and when it was updated; wider sizes also show the next gust alert. When the saved forecast has run out, the widget asks you to open the app instead of showing old values. Mic readings never appear on the widget.

PLAN YOUR WEEK

• Activity advisory: drone, sailing/kite, cycling, small craft and comfort as Safe, Caution or No-go

• Week planner: hours 5:00–22:00 for 7 days in green, amber or red for drone, kite, sailing, cycling or comfort, and the next usable window

• In the planner, drone grades use the forecast wind at 120 m when it is stronger than at ground level

• Next 24 hours of sustained wind and gusts

MIC MODE (BETA)

Hold the mic edge into the wind with no case. It estimates wind from noise; set the calm-air zero or scale it to a reference anemometer.

GOOD TO KNOW

Forecast data is for the nearest Open-Meteo grid point and needs an internet connection. The system decides when background refreshes run, so alerts can be late or not arrive while the app is closed. Use a dedicated anemometer and official warnings for critical decisions. Available in 30 languages.
