Undertone is private group voice chat for people in the same place — a campsite, a festival crowd, a workshop floor, a road-trip convoy. One person hosts a room, friends join with a 4-digit code or a QR scan, and everyone talks over earbuds: live conversation for up to 8, or push to talk for up to 16. No internet, no phone numbers, no accounts, no servers.
HOW IT WORKS
• Host a room and share the 4-digit code — friends nearby join in seconds
• Join by code, QR scan, or an invite link
• Phones connect directly to each other — on modern Androids there's nothing to set up: no router, no hotspot, no network at all
• On older phones, everyone joins the same Wi-Fi or a hotspot instead — the app tells you which applies
• iPhone friends can join too: Undertone for iPhone is on the App Store, and iPhone and Android can share a room when everyone is on the same Wi-Fi or a phone hotspot
• Works completely offline — in the woods, underground, or anywhere without coverage
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
• Join by QR code and your voice is encrypted between phones
• No account, no sign-up, no personal data collected, no location used
• Nothing passes through a server — your voice travels only between your phones
• Rooms vanish when the host ends them
MADE FOR REAL CONVERSATIONS
• Live conversation or push to talk — hold Talk to speak, see who's talking and who's next, and the host can take the mic
• Voice quality tiers and noise suppression tuned for noisy places
• SoundStage adds natural room ambience so voices don't sound flat
• Save frequent rooms and rejoin them with one tap
• See who's talking at a glance
BUILT FOR LONG SESSIONS
• Battery-aware networking keeps power use low
• Automatic recovery from audio interruptions, route changes, and dropped connections
• Keeps working with the screen off
Direct phone-to-phone connection uses Wi-Fi Aware, available on most recent Android phones (Android 13 and newer with supported hardware). Rooms that include an iPhone use the same Wi-Fi network or a phone hotspot. Push to talk needs Undertone 2.0 on every phone. Undertone is in beta — we'd love your feedback as we expand what it can do.

🎙️ Push to talk rooms — one speaker at a time, up to 16 people. Hold Talk to speak; see who's talking and who's next.
📱 iPhone friends can join — same Wi-Fi network or a phone hotspot.
📶 Finds rooms on more networks (hotspots, shared Wi-Fi) and rejoins faster after a drop.
🔒 Encrypted rooms hardened; per-person volume and mute-for-me now work in iPhone-hosted rooms.
🛠️ Dozens of fixes. Push to talk needs 2.0 on every phone.
