Tic Tac Toe

Tic Tac Toe, also known as Noughts and Crosses or Xs and Os, is a classic two-player strategy game that has been enjoyed for generations. It is typically played on a simple 3×3 grid, where one player uses the symbol “X” and the other uses “O.” The players take turns placing their symbol in one of the empty squares with the goal of forming a straight line of three symbols in a row.

A winning line can be horizontal, vertical, or diagonal. If a player successfully creates such a line, they win the game. If all nine squares are filled without either player managing to align three symbols, the game ends in a draw or a tie.

The beauty of Tic Tac Toe lies in its simplicity. It requires no special equipment beyond paper and pencil (or a board and markers), making it a universally accessible game for people of all ages. Despite its straightforward rules, it also teaches important concepts such as strategy, foresight, and critical thinking.

Interestingly, because of its small grid, Tic Tac Toe is considered a “solved game”—meaning that if both players use perfect strategy, the game will always end in a draw. This makes it not just a fun pastime, but also a great introduction to mathematical thinking and game theory for beginners.
