Hiking the trail plays the cyclical movement of the Piast rulers and their courts between the four castles, which acted as the capital.

Popular tours "Piast Trail" took place in the early 60s of the twentieth. in. People traveled then under the "company outings" tarpaulin-covered trucks, on wooden benches. The celebration of the 1000th anniversary of the Polish State (in 1966) helped to popularize the trail.
