About Surah Waqiah

Surah Waqiah protects from poverty & brings blessings through regular recitation

The Benefits of Reading Surah Al-Waqiah

Surah Al-Waqiah, known as the "Surah of Wealth," holds profound significance in Islam for its spiritual and worldly benefits. It is widely believed that reciting this surah regularly can protect a person from poverty and ensure their needs are met. Numerous hadiths support the merits of reciting Surah Al-Waqiah, encouraging Muslims to make it a part of their daily worship.

Hadiths on Surah Al-Waqiah’s Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) highlighted the incredible benefits of Surah Al-Waqiah in various hadiths. In one narration, he said:

"Whoever recites Surah Waqiah at night will never encounter poverty."

This hadith indicates that consistent recitation of this surah can prevent financial hardship, serving as a source of protection against poverty.

In another hadith, the Prophet (SAW) is reported to have said:

"Surah Waqiah is the Surah of Wealth, so recite it and teach it to your children."

This emphasizes the importance of passing on the habit of reading Surah Al-Waqiah to future generations. The Prophet (SAW) recommended that it be a part of daily recitation, especially during times of financial difficulty.

Spiritual Practice of Reading Surah Waqiah

Islamic scholars and religious teachers often encourage Muslims to recite Surah Al-Waqiah every night, particularly after the Isha prayer. Some also suggest reading it after Maghrib, but many consider the time after Isha to be most ideal.

If you find yourself in a period of financial difficulty or distress, reciting this surah can bring immense blessings. To enhance the spiritual benefits, it's advised to:

Start by reciting Durood/Salawat Ibrahimi three or eleven times before reading Surah Waqiah.

After completing the surah, recite Durood/Salawat Ibrahimi again and make dua (supplication).

Sending blessings (Salawat) to Prophet Muhammad (SAW) opens the gates of mercy and facilitates the acceptance of your prayers. It is believed that this practice brings your supplications directly to the throne of Allah SWT, increasing the likelihood of their fulfillment. Moreover, by invoking blessings on the Prophet (SAW), you gain additional rewards (barakah).

Reassurance from Allah SWT

It is important to remember that Allah SWT is always aware of our struggles and hardships. He never places a burden upon us greater than what we can bear. When you recite Surah Al-Waqiah, have faith that Allah will provide for you in ways you cannot foresee, as His wisdom surpasses human understanding.

Revelation History of Surah Al-Waqiah

Surah Al-Waqiah is a Meccan surah, meaning it was revealed during the Meccan period of Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) prophethood. However, some Quranic scholars believe that parts of this surah were revealed in the Medinan period, particularly verses 39–40 or 81–82. Despite this debate, it is commonly agreed that the majority of the chapter was revealed in Mecca.

In terms of chronology, traditional Egyptian scholars place it as the 41st chapter revealed, immediately following Surah At-Tur. The Nöldeke Chronology, however, lists it as the 46th. In the Quran, Surah Al-Waqiah is positioned as the 56th chapter, following Surah Ar-Rahman, which discusses related themes such as the blessings of Allah SWT.

Some scholars, such as Ahmad ibn Ajiba, view Surah Al-Waqiah as a continuation of Surah Ar-Rahman. Both chapters emphasize the signs of Allah's mercy, power, and the contrast between the fates of the righteous and the wrongdoers.

By following this practice with sincerity, you can find strength, relief, and barakah in your life, knowing that Allah is always with you.
