Series 7 Exam which is more formally named the General Securities Representative Qualification Examination, is a test for those who want to sell any type of securities. Not only knowing the duties and responsibilities of a general securities representative, the candidates are also expected to get awareness of the rules and regulations governing their profession. This consists of sales of corporate securities, municipal securities, investment company securities, variable annuities, direct participation programs, options and government securities.

Within 3 hours and 45 minutes of the Series 7’s length, there are 125 multiple-choice questions along with 10 unscored pretest questions that are randomly distributed. To register, it costs $245 and the passing score is 72.

The exam covers the 4 major job functions of a general securities representative as below:

Function 1 – testing business for the broker-dealer from customers and potential customers (9 questions)

Function 2 – opening accounts after obtaining and evaluating financial profile and investment objectives (11 questions)

Function 3 – provide information about investments, offer suitable suggestions, transfer assets, and maintain appropriate records (91 questions)

Function 4 – obtain and verify purchase and sales instructions and agreements; process, complete and confirm transactions (14 questions).
