According to a directive issued by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), mobile users now need to register their cellular devices with the authority before October 20 to avoid blockage.

The regulatory authority has launched a verification system called 'Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System' (DIRBS). The system is aimed at ensuring a healthy growth of mobile device ecosystem in Pakistan and it will ensure use of legal devices on the mobile networks.

The import, use, and growth of legal devices will enhance government revenues, improve the quality of mobile service to consumers, preserve network resources of the mobile operators, provide better security and ensure the protection of intellectual property rights.

The PTA had earlier sent notifications to all mobile users asking them to register their smartphones and GSM devices before October 20. It is now mandatory for every user to get the device checked even if he/she has not received the message.

How to get IMEI no:

Every phone has its own unique IMEI no which can be retrieved through following steps:

By dialing *#06# on your mobile

It is also printed on box and device

The IMEI information is also available in the 'About phone' section of smartphones 'Settings' tab.

The unique code is also printed inside the battery compartment which can be seen after removing back cover and battery.

How to register:

There are basically three ways a user can register the device.

Via SMS by sending the IMEI # to 8484

Through PTA orignal website

or via mobile app specially developed by PTA for DIRBS system.
