A teachers' tool to support high quality early literacy & learning in Hindi

OELP app is a training tool for teachers, parents and educators to enable high quality foundational learning in Hindi for diverse groups of early grade learners. To be used in conjunction with the OELP kit.

Context:Research evidence from the neurosciences has highlighted the critical importance of the early years for building strong foundations for each child's future development and learning.

Content: multilayered and nuanced content which addresses the development of foundational learning within developmentally appropriate and socio-cultural perspectives.

The content has been designed to support young learners through:

a) Conceptually sound and proven approaches for engaging meaningfully with reading and writing in Hindi

b) Child friendly practices based on a responsive learning environment and the authentic use of environmental print. These practices are designed to facilitate high quality learning through opportunities which address each learners :

Emotional well-being and acceptance

Social competence and a positive concept of the self

Interest and performance levels so that all children are able to unfold their emerging cognitive abilities with fullness.

c) The multiple dimensions spelt out above have been carefully captured through a series of short classroom based videos

Design:Module wise presentation of material for teachers, parents and educators based on a series real time classroom based short videos, which can be accessed in the online or offline mode.

The OELP App is connected to an analytic platform which provides useful insights on the usage of the App. Listed below are the features:

The analytics are enabled in offline mode

A TRAINER APP has been developed to empower the trainer to scale the OELP app usage among teachers.

Trainer App features:

A demo module to capture the number of demos provided

The trainer can set up, mentor and monitor virtual teacher peer groups to help teachers interact and share among groups moderated by trainer

The trainers will be able to upload reports of activities conducted by the trainer

The trainer will able to curate the content generated by teachers for promotion among peers and the global app

The trainer will be able to view some dashboards and reports based on the peer usage

The trainer will be able to promote users for their contribution for reward and recognition

The objectives of the app :

1. To effectively communicate classroom practices required for the implementation of OELP's approaches to early grade reading and writing

2. To build capacities of teacher educators and teachers in the remotest of places with minimal human intervention

3. To build a platform where OELP’s approaches can be replicated for any languages which use same phonology as the Devanagri script

4. To build a system that will enable the team to gather information on user engagement, feedback from teachers and collection of data

5. To monitor and track usage of the application by teachers across various districts

6. To use analytics generated to improve the content quality and delivery methods

7. To ensure sustainability through transition from OELP supported implementation to systemic implementation over three years

8. To strategise for future scaling up
