Mijn Eigen Referendum

My Own Referendum presents a platform of unofficial referendums to the population of the Netherlands.

Democracy in the Netherlands consists of voting by members of the House of Representatives every regular period of 4 years. With that, democracy at a national level pretty much stops because the Senate is indirectly elected.

Rarely does a party program as a whole match a voter's preferences. The system of elections makes it impossible to choose some points from one party and some points from another party.

Furthermore, the activities of the members of the House of Representatives are far removed from ordinary citizens. Election promises are immediately squandered when entering into a coalition, or disappear completely from view. It seems that a member of the House of Representatives has absolutely no idea what is going on among the people.

The dynamics in a country and the entire world are so high that an election result is soon outdated. It therefore takes far too long before citizens can exercise any influence on political relations again.

Citizens need to vote on current, concrete issues. And that is also possible in the form of referenda, with which a democracy actually takes shape at the expense of the political elite.

My Own Referendum presents statements and questions that everyone can vote on. Citizens can propose questions themselves free of charge or submit them for a small fee. Furthermore, after casting a vote, people can read all reactions and give their own reaction.
