Established in March 1959 during the tenure of President Abdul Karim Qasim, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stands as Iraq’s first official news agency and the second pioneering institution of its kind in the Middle East, following Egypt’s Middle East News Agency. Since its inception, INA has played a pivotal role in shaping Iraq’s media landscape, founded by a distinguished cadre of Iraqi journalists including Mohsen Hussein, Hamid Rashid, and Ahmed Qattan.
Law No. 158 of 1959 was issued to establish INA, and after its publication in the Official Gazette on October 6 of the same year, the agency released its first printed news bulletin on November 9, 1959.
