Imposter Circle: Party Game

One phone, one secret word, and one of you doesn't have it.

Imposter Circle is a party game you play around a table, not in a lobby. The phone goes round once and everyone holds their card to read it in private. The crew sees the word. The imposter sees a blank card.

Then you talk. One clue each, going round, and every clue you give is also a clue for the imposter. Say too little and the table turns on you. Say too much and you've handed the word to the person you're trying to catch. When you've all had enough, you vote.

FIVE WAYS TO PLAY

Classic. Everyone gets the word. The imposter gets nothing, and knows it.

Word Wolf. Everyone gets a word, one of them is wrong, and no card says who's who. You find out when the clues stop lining up.

Undercover. The imposter gets a near miss and is told so. Easier to bluff, harder to catch.

Only one knows. One player has the word. Everyone else is hunting them.

Spy. A location instead of a word, and everyone there has a role. The spy has neither, and works out where they are from the list on screen.

WHAT'S IN IT

1,043 words in 20 categories, plus 36 locations for Spy mode. You can write your own list too, for the names and inside jokes only your table finds funny.

Nobody's the imposter four rounds in a row. The deal leans toward whoever's been hunted least, without becoming a pattern you can read off the seating order.

The same word won't come up twice in one evening.

Keep score or don't. Run a discussion timer or don't. Both are optional.

Every card looks the same from across the table. Same back, same size, and no colour anywhere that gives a role away.

Written in English and German, and neither is a translation of the other. There's a switch in settings, so a German evening on an English phone doesn't mean changing the phone.

The whole game is free: every word, every category, every mode, every table size. Nothing to register for, nothing to watch between rounds. The game itself never goes online, so nothing you type into it leaves the phone. The one thing that can reach the network is Google Play billing, which is how the Pro unlock gets checked.

Imposter Circle Pro is a one-off purchase for people who play a lot. You get unlimited word lists of your own, several saved tables to switch between, more than five categories in a single round, and a light or dark theme that ignores the system setting. Pro lifts limits. It never puts a word, a category or a mode behind a paywall.

Three players is enough to start. Twenty-four fit too, though by then the phone takes a while to get round.
