About HzBench

Ear training and a precise tone generator for frequencies and waveforms.

Train your ear with frequency drills, waveform practice, and precise tone tools.

HzBench is an ear training lab and precision tone generator for anyone who wants to understand sound by hearing it, comparing it, and shaping it directly.

Instead of only showing frequencies as numbers, HzBench turns them into practical listening exercises. Train your ear with guided practice modes for pitch, frequency order, waveform recognition, target matching, memory, and note placement. Hear a tone, compare two tones, sort frequencies from low to high, match a reference with your slider, recognize sine, square, triangle, and sawtooth waves, or build short memory rounds from hidden tone cards.

HzBench is useful when you want to:

- learn what different frequencies actually sound like

- improve pitch and frequency perception

- practice hearing whether a tone is higher, lower, or the same

- recognize common waveform shapes by ear

- train with reference tones instead of guessing from labels

- compare your own setting against a target tone

- build confidence before working with EQ, synths, or audio gear

- create exact test tones for speakers, headphones, and rooms

- check rough frequency response, resonances, and masking effects

- teach audio, acoustics, music technology, or sound design

- prepare ears for production, mixing, synthesis, or instrument work

Ear training features include:

- Higher or Lower: compare two tones and decide their relationship

- Pitch Matching: hear a tone and choose the matching frequency

- Frequency Estimate: listen once, then place your estimate on a slider

- Target Matching: adjust your own tone until it matches a reference

- Frequency Sorting: arrange labelled tones from lowest to highest

- Frequency Memory: match hidden cards by frequency and waveform

- Waveform Recognition: identify generator waveforms by sound

- Note Placement: connect heard or read notes with staff positions

- instant feedback after each round

- score, streak and difficulty tracking

- hearing range calibration for practice questions

The generator side gives you direct control when you need a reliable signal instead of an exercise. Create pure tones, sweeps and noise, adjust frequency, waveform, gain and balance, switch A4 reference, save presets and return to your last session. Use it as a quick reference tone source, a classroom demonstration tool, a synth, and waveform learning aid, or a compact test bench for everyday audio work.

HzBench is designed for musicians, singers, producers, mixing engineers, sound designers, teachers, students, repair technicians, audio hobbyists, and curious listeners. You do not need to be an expert to start: beginner exercises use clear differences, while harder modes move toward finer listening and more exact frequency judgments.

Unlike many generic tone apps, HzBench combines two workflows in one place:

1. Practice your hearing with structured, repeatable listening tasks.

2. Generate controlled tones when you require exact audio signals.

This makes it useful in many real situations:

- a singer checking pitch awareness before rehearsal

- a producer learning what 250 Hz, 1 kHz, or 8 kHz feels like by ear

- a teacher demonstrating sine, square, and sawtooth waves

- a student learning frequency ranges for EQ and acoustics

- a technician playing stable test tones through audio equipment

- a sound designer comparing waveform character and pitch movement

- a listener training recognition of low, mid, and high-frequency areas

HzBench keeps the focus on sound. The interface is direct, fast, and uncluttered, with large controls, clear feedback, and offline-first local data. Practice results are stored on the device, raw audio is not recorded, and the app is built around generated tones rather than microphone analysis.

Important note: HzBench can help you explore and train listening skills, but it is not a medical hearing test and does not diagnose hearing conditions.
