Wealthy Fish

Help the fish catch as many coins as you can!

Wealthy Fish is a twitch based arcade Android game, which challenges players to catch as many falling coins as they can, by moving the fish left and right using the drag input.

The game uses the following mechanics:

The Fish:

The main and only character of the game. It positions itself immediately wherever the touch input is detected. It can be moved horizontally but not vertically. Using the fish, players need to catch each coin before they fall beyond its reach. Failing to catch a coin will result in game over.

The coins:

The coins fall from the very top, down towards the very bottom of the screen At the beginning they fall slowly so that beginner players can get used to the mechanics, but soon they quickly pick up pace as well as frequency so that more experienced players don’t have to wait too long for the real challenge to kick in.

The diamond:

Once every 10 to 30 seconds a diamond will appear falling down the screen. Once caught it gives a multiplier of x2 for 10 seconds. If then another diamond is caught in a row, it gives a multiplier of x3 and so on. If the diamond is not caught, the multiplier is reset back to x2 for the next caught diamond.

The score:

Players get +1 towards their score each coin they collect multiplied by the multiplier if there currently is one. This makes the diamond a typical risk versus reward mechanic (do I catch the diamond risking not catching the coin?).

The game uses a simple pixel artstyle inspired by the old school games. It aims at both genders aged 18-25, but due to its simplicity it can appeal to anyone wanting a quick challenge like when waiting for a bus for instance.

Similarly to Flappy Bird, Wealthy Fish was inspired by Bushnell’s philosophy which says ‘All best games are easy to learn and difficult to master’.
