Your phone already tells you things. Dynamic Island just gives them a better place to land.
A small pill sits at the top of your screen and comes alive when something happens. A message arrives, a song starts, the charger goes in, and the island grows to show it, then quietly shrinks back.
WHAT IT SHOWS
Notifications, with the app icon, the text and the buttons that came with them. Reply to a message straight from the island without leaving whatever you were doing.
Music and podcasts, with album art and skip, pause and previous controls. It follows whatever is playing, from any app.
Charging and battery, so you know the moment the cable is really in.
Ringer changes, so you can see at a glance that you switched to silent.
Live activities, so downloads and timers stay on screen with their progress for as long as they run.
Tap an empty island and it shows you the time, the date and your battery level.
MAKE IT YOURS
Seventeen ready-made looks, from a plain black pill to gradients, glows and a highlight that travels across the surface. Pick one and you are done.
Or open any look and change it: shape, width, height, corner radius, colors, opacity, border, glow, shine, shadow. Every edit is saved against that look alone, so you can try another one and lose nothing. Changed your mind? Reset it back to how it shipped.
There is also a Material You look that takes its colors from your wallpaper, and the app itself can match your wallpaper too.
PUT IT WHERE YOU WANT
Drag the island anywhere with your finger, or nudge it a pixel at a time. Line it up with your camera cutout with one tap.
Android reserves the very top of the screen for the status bar, so the app keeps a usable strip of the island below it. You can switch that off if you would rather have the look.
YOUR GESTURES, YOUR RULES
Tap, double tap, press and hold, swipe left, swipe right and swipe up. Point each one at whatever you want: expand, open the app, dismiss, play or pause, next track, previous track, or the flashlight.
Every gesture tells you what it needs, so nothing quietly does nothing.
ON YOUR TERMS
Choose what the island does when nothing is happening: stay hidden, sit there as an empty pill, show a clock, or show your battery.
Set how long it waits before collapsing, and how fast it moves. Turn off the sources you do not care about. Hide it on the lock screen or in landscape. Bring it back after a reboot.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Dynamic Island has no internet permission at all. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is collected, and there is no account to make. Everything happens on your phone, and it works with no signal.
WHAT IT NEEDS
Permission to display over other apps, so the island can appear above whatever you are using.
Notification access, so it knows what to show. Without it the island still works, it just has less to say.
Optionally, permission to ignore battery optimization, so Android does not shut the island down while you are not looking.
