Alms is an absorption term from Arabic (Sadaqoh) which implies giving from a Muslim to another person with the aim of getting a reward from Allah. The gift can be in the form of goods, services or related to a human activity for other humans. This is based on some of the hadiths from Rasulullah SAW which states that a sincere smile is only part of alms, or the husband intercourse with his wife is part of alms.

Alms is also a pious deed ordered by Allah SWT. Where people who give alms will be rewarded with invaluable replies on the side of Allah SWT. Sometimes the reward is the same as, or exceeds the alms that we give to others. But not a few alms-giving is only a reward from Allah SWT only.

Allah SWT conveyed some of the virtues of alms through His word and the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad. Allah's purpose in conveying the virtues of alms is to motivate Muslims to love charity. We can imagine, if all Muslims diligently gave alms, really many people would feel the benefits.
