The book Basics of Political Science that is in the hands of readers today is a revised (enhanced) edition of the book with the same title which has been reprinted thirty times. This book, written by Professor Miriam Budiardjo (deceased), has developed into the main handbook for every Indonesian student studying political science.

This book is also widely used by other members of the public who want to obtain a comprehensive overview of political science. Therefore, it is a great honor for us, Mother's students, to be entrusted by her family to help complete the process of revising this book.

Discussing the book Basics of Political Science, of course we cannot separate ourselves from the figure of the author or from the context of political science as a scientific study and political practice which has been empirically applied in Indonesia from the era of the struggle for independence to the current reform era.

Mrs. Miriam Budiardjo is known not only as the most senior political scientist in Indonesia, but also as a political fighter who has been active since the revolution. His life experience is truly complete with an impressive career. He is known as a diplomat who served in India and America in the early 1950s, as a lecturer, and as an activist who played an important role in various community activities.

He was actively involved in a number of important events in the history of the Indonesian nation, both during the Dutch colonial period, the Japanese occupation, the independence revolution, Parliamentary Democracy, Guided Democracy, the New Order and the Reformation period.

When we read the writings in this book, especially the chapters which have been revised quite substantively by Mrs. Miriam, we immediately know that Mrs. Miriam's special attention is focused on the themes of human rights, political participation and political parties, legislative institutions, the electoral system , the constitution, as well as new concepts and approaches in political science.

In discussing issues of particular interest and concern, Mrs. Miriam often combines academic ideas based on political studies with her empirical experience as an actor.

Hopefully the material content of this application can be useful for self-introspection and better improvement in everyday life.
