Fasting is one of the pillars of Islam. As is known, fasting is a process of refraining from doing something. In Islam, fasting is not only about refraining from eating and drinking, but fasting also talks about refraining from committing sinful activities.
Fasting can be divided into two, namely: sunnah mutlaq fasting or fasting ordered by the Qur'an and sunnah, which is not bound by a certain time and sunnah muqayyad fasting or fasting that is bound by a certain time such as fasting Shawwal, Monday and Thursday, and so on. So, here are the types of sunnah fasting.
1. Monday-Thursday Fasting As the name suggests, Monday-Thursday fasting is a sunnah fast that is carried out only on Mondays and Thursdays. This fast, is the fast that was practiced most often by Rasulullah SAW, during his life. Monday-Thursday fasting has the virtue of abstaining from sinful acts.
2. David's Fast David's Fast is a sunnah fast that is done alternately. That is, this fast can be done on one day of fasting and the next day not fasting, and so on. This fast was originally intended to emulate the fasting of the Prophet David As. This fasting also has the virtue of keeping us away from sinful acts, endowed with good morals, endowed with high gratitude, and intelligent thinking.
3. Ashura Fasting The next sunnah fast, is the Ashura fast. This fast is held on the 10th of Muharram. The terms and pillars of fasting are the same as other sunnah fasts. Even though this fast is a Sunnah fast, it is said that if a Muslim observes this fast, Allah will erase one year of sins that he has committed.
4. Sha'ban Fasting Sha'ban fasting is fasting that is carried out in the month of Sha'ban. This fast, especially before Ramadan. As is known, the specialty of fasting in the month of Sha; ban is the day when Allah raises all our practices.
5. Asyhurul Hurum Fasting This fast is fasting that is carried out in the month of Asyhurul Hurum, or the month glorified by Allah SWT. Jumhur Ulama, agree that the months glorified by Allah are Dzulqa'dah, Dzulhijjah, Muharram, and Rajab. 6. Three-day fast in the middle of the month Three-day fast in the middle of the month is fasting that is observed on the 13th, 14th and 15th of the Hijri months. This fast is a form of sunnah fasting, which when carried out, will bring goodness. Fasting three days in the middle of the month has the virtue of multiplying rewards like fasting that has been done throughout the year.
