Located in the westernmost part of İzmir, the Peninsula consists of the districts of Karaburun, Çeşme, Seferihisar, Urla and Güzelbahçe geographically. The region is named after Karaburun, Çeşme or Urla. Turkey's largest peninsula with an area of 171 thousand hectares; Aegean Sea to the west and north, İzmir Bay to the east and Menderes, Balçova and Narlıdere; it is surrounded by Kuşadası Bay in the south. Most of the southern shores of the Izmir Bay are located on the Peninsula. The proximity of Çeşme to Chios in the west and Karaburun to Lesbos in the north gives information about the intercontinental location of the region. With the Sarpıncık Lighthouse at the farthest point of Karaburun, the doors of the Aegean Sea open to the Mediterranean.
