TURAS UIG

GPS-located stories from the landscape of beautiful Uig Bay, Isle-of-Lewis, Scotland.

The Uig Trail, an Turas Uig in our Gaelic language, brings the landscape of Uig Bay alive through the stories of those who have lived here.

THE STORIES

Seven stories criss-cross time and place, linking legend and history, mixing myth and fact, opening up a new ways of understanding the landscape. Murder, robbery, buried treasure, myth, fact, legend and a hanging - local life over ten centuries in your pocket.

The storyteller and narrator for the project is Dr Finlay Macleod with Chrisella Ross.

THE APP

Wherever you are in the world listen to the stories in English or the original Gaelic and listen to the bonus local Uig song, The High Surge of the Sea. Better still, visit us in Uig and let the app and GPS location retell you the stories on the spot.

THE PLACE

Uig Bay is one of the most beautiful places on earth. On the edge of the Atlantic Ocean the Uig district is home to a cluster of small village communities. These communities trace their language and culture back over the centuries and now share them with you through Turas Uig app.

Wherever one stands on Uig Sands one can see where each of the seven stories is located. Walking the beach and exploring all seven stories (or listening to them elsewhere) will bring the landscape to life.
