Pittsburgh Section

ACS is a congressionally chartered independent membership organization which represents professionals at all degree levels and in all fields of chemistry and sciences that involve chemistry. Since 1903, the Pittsburgh Section has been home to chemists and other chemistry related professions affiliated with the ACS. Local Sections are a key benefit of ACS membership. They help those individuals connected to the field of chemistry stay active and involved in their communities by:

-providing a forum for networking and collaboration

-supporting chemists’ and other related chemistry professions’ efforts to educate their community about chemistry

History

When Pittsburgh was selected as host to the American Chemical Society’s national meeting in 1902, there were fewer than 57 ACS members within 70 miles of the town. Thus it was that on a snowy evening in February 3, 1903, 18 chemists got together to draw up plans for a Pittsburgh Section (of the ACS). Today, the Pittsburgh Section’s 1,900+ members represent academia, industry, and government and are involved in every aspect of the chemical enterprise. This app serves to bring information about local section activities in the hands of the members.
