If there is one aspect of New York City that is more famous than anything else, it is the cluster of towering skyscrapers that take up much of Manhattan island. Manhattan's skyline is the first thing many visitors notice when visiting the city, and in media from movies to television shows to magazines the skyline is shorthand for New York itself.

The story of Manhattan's most famous buildings contains the story of the city's history, and its present, and in many ways its future. Most of the city's well-known towers are concentrated in two parts of Manhattan Island: the Financial District and Midtown. This tour takes a trip from the World Trade Center, close to the southern tip of Manhattan, and up through Midtown, with stops at iconic buildings including the Woolworth Building, the Chrysler, the Empire State Building, 30 Rock, One Times Square and numerous others.
