On August 2, 2027, a total solar eclipse will cross southern Spain, North Africa, Egypt and Arabia, and in Upper Egypt the sky will stay dark for more than six minutes, a totality no eclipse will match until 2114. In 2027 the Sun stands high over much of the path, nearly overhead in Egypt and Arabia, and in August the heat and the desert dust matter as much as the clouds. Historical maps of heat, dust haze and cloud cover show what each spot has typically been like at eclipse hour, so you can plan for shade, water and the clearest sky.
