Origami Tutorial

Paper was introduced in China in the first century of 105 by the Tongkok people named Ts'ai Lun. This is where the art of paper folding begins.

In 610 AD, a Buddhist monk named Donch? (Dokyo) from Goguryeo (Korean peninsula) came to Japan to introduce a way of making paper and ink. Japan also finally know how to make paper and gradually this science is growing.

After years later, around 741 AD, the tradition of paper folding began to enter Japan. It started from the Japanese public often making a bottle of sake (Japanese wine) from folded paper.

Then the art of folding paper is increasingly being done in Japan and then known as orikata, orisui, and orimono. Then in 1880, this art form is more commonly called origami by the community, other names such as orikata, orisui, and orimono began to be forgotten.

The word origami consists of the word 'ori' which means 'fold' and 'us' which means 'paper'. The material used is paper or square cloth and then folded into certain forms in accordance with the wishes.

The origami development was fast enough in the Edo period around the year 1600-1868 because at that time paper supplies were easy to obtain. Moreover, the original Japanese paper inventory known as washi was quite a lot.

This art uses paper material that is square and then the paper is folded and shaped to resemble animals or certain objects such as frogs, ships, balloons, birds, and other shapes.

Because the art of paper folding is often done in Japan, the origami is known by many as part of the Japanese culture that develops from generation to generation.

Until finally origami known by many people from various countries including Indonesia. The art of folding paper is taught in schools because it can enhance creativity.
