कबीर हे मानवजातीचे, मानवतेचे पुजारी होते. कुठल्याही प्रकारचा धर्मभेद, पंथभेद, जातिभेद यापलीकडे कबीर पोहोचले होते. या भारत देशातील यच्चयावत समाज एकमताने चालावा, एकजुटीने वागावा म्हणून ज्या महापुरुषांनी आटोकाट प्रयत्न केले, सर्व सुखी असावेत अशा विचाराने जे आमरण झटले त्यापैकी कबीर हे एक होत. त्यामुळे त्यांना हे हिंदू-मुसलमान ऐक्याचे प्रतीक समजले जाते. कबीरांनी केलेली राम, कृष्ण, विठ्ठल अशा अनेक हिंदू दैवतांवरील पदे उपलब्ध आहेत.

Kabir suggested that True God is with the person who is on the path of righteousness, considered all creatures on earth as his own self, and who is passively detached from the affairs of the world.

Kabir and his followers named his verbally composed poems of wisdom as "banis (utterances). These include songs and couplets, called variously dohe, (Sanskrit: slokā), or sakhi. The latter term means "witness", implying the poems to be evidence of the Truth.
