Tencent QQ is a Chinese developed instant messaging service, that has also expanded to incorporate other functions such as microblogging, sharing music, videos, group chat and voice chat, as well as a gaming program.

Tencent QQ has about 800 000 million users, but the majority of those reside in mainland China. Outside of China this program has a very bad reputation and is frequently flagged as Adware by a large number of security software. Similar programs have been dubbed Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUP for short). In general, PUPs tend to be legal software that is not directly malicious, but have many “hidden features” that may not be outright visible on installation – such as displaying Ads on the user’s screen or making other unauthorized adjustments to the computer, such as fixing your homepage and search engine and preventing you from reverting these changes.
