Temperature and Humidity Alert

Keep an eye on the climate of your server room, your musical instrument, etc. and have an email sent to you if conditions change.

Climate control is essential for several applications.

Computer Equipment is sensitive to heat and humidity, maintaining a stable temperature and humidity within tolerances is critical to IT system reliability. Some manufacturers refuse to guarantee for their equipment if electronic components inside the devices got too hot. Also if humidity is too low the risk of static electricity increases which may result in spontaneous shutdown of computers when discharges occur.

Apart from malfunction, electrostatic discharges can cause breakdowns in solid state devices, resulting in irreversible damage.

Musical intruments made of wood might crack if humidity gets too low or changes too fast, in the worst case it can mean a total loss of the instrument. The crown of a pianos wooden soundboard increases or decreases with changes of humidity resulting in a change of the tensions on the strings, in the best case the instrument only gets out of tune. Ideally a piano owner would use a humidifier and/or air conditioner.

In addition you should also monitor the actual relative humidity and get informed immediately if levels get out of range.

That is what this app does. It sends an email-alert when minimum or maximum limits are breached.

HOW TO USE:

This app runs on one activity-page which is subdivided into four sections.

The upper section displays the current temperature in Fahrenheit and Celsius and the relative humidity.

Below the green bar is the middle section with two sliders, one for the maximum the other for the minimum limit for a temperature alert.

Checkbox "alert temperature" needs to be checked if you want breaches of temperature limits to be alerted.

Use the "plus" and "minus"- buttons for fine tuning.

Humidity monitoring (below the yellow bar) works the same way.

The last section allows you to specify an email-address to specify where temperature and humidity alerts should be send to.

"TEST MAIL-ALERT"-Button needs to be pressed at least once, the account from which the alerts should be send from needs to be set up.
