Swingtone: Pendulum Waves

Swingtone turns a pendulum wave into music. Glowing balls swing at slightly different speeds, each one plays a note when it strikes, and at the end of every cycle they all come back into one line.

How it works

• Pick a ready wave or tap Surprise me, then press play.

• The balls drift through snakes, spirals and ripples, and each one plays its note when it strikes.

• A countdown shows when they line up next. When they do, the screen lights up with a flash, sparks and a ring of light.

• Change the balls, tempo, scale, instrument, colours or background, and hear and see each change at once.

• Save your wave or share it as a video, audio or MIDI file.

Features

• Up to 128 balls, a tempo from 0.1 to 200 strikes a minute and cycles from seconds to hours.

• 11 instruments: marimba, piano (a real recorded grand piano), celesta, kalimba, jal tarang, synth, handpan, music box, vibraphone, harp and tubular bells.

• 15 scales: major, minor, pentatonic, fifth plus major or minor, chromatic, quarter tones, one tone, dorian, lydian, blues, whole tone, hirajoshi and hijaz.

• Surprise me: a new wave that always sounds good.

• Your own waves: save, rename and duplicate them.

• Export a video (tall or wide), audio (M4A or WAV) or a MIDI file and share it.

• Background playback with controls on the lock screen.

• A sleep timer of up to 90 minutes that fades the music out gently.

• A live wallpaper with your wave on the home screen.

• Tap a ball to hear its note, double-tap for full screen.

• Portrait and landscape.

• Vibration when the balls line up or at every strike, if you want it.

Watch it to unwind, or let it play you to sleep.
