About SubDroid

English

Open source subtitle editor for Advanced Substation Alpha (*.ass) subtitles

SubDroid is a free subtitle editor for Advanced Substation Alpha (*.ass) subtitle files.

SubDroid is currently incomplete, but can be used in some basic translation scenarios and is relatively stable. It is an open source project, and code can be accessed at https://bitbucket.org/knezmilos/subdroid

Main supported functions:

- Loading .ass files through a built-in file browsing dialog

- Loading .ass files by tapping on them in external file browsers

- Editing existing subtitle lines

- Displaying/hiding timings, styles and actors

- Displaying/hiding ASS tags (e.g. {\an8\fad...})

- Filtering subtitle lines by text input

- Configurable subtitle line size and some other settings

- Help

Functions that are NOT supported in this version:

- Adding or deleting subtitle lines

- Changing timings, styles or actors

- Video & audio

What this means is that SubDroid is not usable for direct video&audio to text subtitling. The main usage scenario requires that you already have an existing subtitle file. This can still be useful if you use an english file to translate into your own language, or for quality checking of previous work and minor modifications.

I will do minor modifications if requested, larger modifications only if there is a significant number of downloads. Interested developers that wish to contribute to the code can send me an e-mail and/or use the provided bitbucket repository.

Known bugs (none fatal):

- when changing orientation, currently shown section disappears while it's button remains selected. Clicking on it twice solves the problem

- subtitle lines might appear huge at first; simply go to editor settings and just reselect the same line size that was already selected. This will actually apply the setting to the editor

- title line seems to disappear on some phones, possibly ones with physical menu button?
