Проницаемость: Тарнов Приложение App

This app is connected with the exhibition “Permeation-Przenikanie” - the result of the Polish-Israeli student project lasting nearly a year. Within this projec, teenagers from the Janusz Korczak High School no. 5 in Tarnow cooperated with students of Harel High School from Mevaseret Zion, located near Jerusalem. The project was carried out in cooperation with the Tarnów Culture Centre (TCK).

By presenting old photographs of the Jewish Community in Tarnow superimposed onto the contemporary images of the same places, students aim at restoring the memory about almost half of the residents of our town who lived in it before World War II and during the German occupation. Those photographs are accompanied by memories of former residents of Tarnow: Ronald Unger, Samuel Goetz, Ignacy Pomeranz, Blanka Goldman, and Mark Schonwetter.Every exhibit features a QR code, which scanned with a mobile phone will allow you to display related multimedia material.

The idea of the exhibition was inspired by another exhibition called “I love Tarnów” presented in TCK, wonderful combinations of Tarnow photos created by Mr. Siekierski, Marcin Dziedzic’s photos from the “Teraz ‘44” (“Now ‘44”) series, as well as by a photo taken by Jerry Bergman which shows workers coming back from work to the Tarnow ghetto which Jerry had presented on put on the Jewish Tarnow Facebook group. We would like to thank all of those people.

We hope this exhibition will inspire you, dear visitors, to reach out for books by Samuel Goets and Ann Schonwetter Arnold, describing stories connected with Tarnów from before 75 years, and that it will also get you interested in the history of Tarnow before World War II and during the Nazi occupation.

We chose this quotation by Ann Schonwetter Arnold as the motto of our exhibition: "To know that the future generations will learn about the real history of their town, their country and the many people that no longer live there makes me feel that there is still hope."

Special thanks to Ronald Unger, who spent his childhood and survived the occupation in Tarnow and now lives in New York, for his priceless memories which he had recorded on video for us. We are very grateful to his daughter, Audrey Reich Unger and also her son, Jeremy Reich, who were so kind to record and provide the videoclips. Special thanks to Gennie Goetz Penn, Samuel Goetz’s daughter, who gave consent for using quotations from her father’s book “I never saw my face” - her father birthday is on June 8. We are grateful to Ann Drillich, Blanka Goldman’s daughter, for sending in a family photo and her mother's testimony. We would like to thank Ignacy Pomeranc, a childhood friend of Sam Goetz, who also shared his memories of pre-war Tarnow with us. Finally we would like to thank Mark Schonwetter for his family photo and Ann Schonwetter Arnold, his daugher, who recorded her father talking about Tarnow.

We would like to say thank you to every institution that shared archival photosstored in their collections: Tarnow Regional Museum, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, Yad Vashem Intstitue in Jerusalem, Szalom Foundation in Warsaw, “The 1939 Society” Association in Los Angeles and private persons: Ann Drillich, Mark and Ann Schonwetter. Organizing this exhibition wouldn’t have been possible without the assistance of the members of the Facebook group “Jewish Tarnów” founded by Jill Leibman, whom we would like to thank too.

The umbrella programme for the cooperation between the Survivors and their descendands, students of Janusz Korczak High School in Tarnow, TCK and Harel High School in Israel is called "To Bring Memory Back"and is realized by the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage (FODZ) from Lodz. The“Permeation-Przenikanie” exhibition is part of the Galicianer Sztetl - Galizia Jews Memorial Days.
