The name Itapuí was adopted in honor of the Rio dos Sinos, which had this primitive name in the Tupi-Guarani language. The word "itapuí" means "spout water", according to scholar Oscar Piconez. During this period, in 1978, the current director Nelcy Adão de Souza took over, who had been hired as an employee in 1962, on August 22, coinciding with the radio's anniversary date. Professor Carlos Sillero still remained in the presidency until 1985. The frequency was changed to 1,170KHz and later the power was increased. In 1998, the current radiating system was installed along the RS-474.
Currently, Rádio Itapuí is also on the Internet to take its programming to the world.
