Project Zomboid suits players who want a survival game where planning matters as much as fighting. The game takes place in the Knox Event Exclusion Zone, where each day can create new problems for a survivor. Players decide how to approach danger, gather what they need, and respond when plans fail.
Manage daily survival needs
Project Zomboid requires you to watch hunger, thirst, injuries, illness, boredom, depression, and changing weather. A survivor can become less effective when these conditions are ignored. As a result, finding food, water, shelter, and medical supplies remains part of everyday play.
Explore and search for supplies
You explore a large Kentucky based map with homes, shops, and other buildings to search. Project Zomboid lets you collect useful items from these locations, but entering unfamiliar places can also bring risk. Supplies can become limited, so players need to decide what to carry and what to leave behind.
React to zombie behavior
Project Zomboid includes large groups of zombies that respond to sound, sight, lighting, and player actions. For example, firing a weapon can attract attention from nearby zombies. You therefore need to consider noise and visibility before entering an area or dealing with a group.
Build a safer place to stay
You can use scavenged materials and tools to cook, farm, fish, craft weapons, and improve a shelter. Project Zomboid also allows players to barricade buildings and build defenses around a chosen base. These tasks can help support a longer survival attempt, although no location stays completely safe.
Develop a survivor over time
Project Zomboid lets you customize a survivor and improve skills through regular activities. Carpentry, cooking, trapping, combat, and other actions contribute to character progression. In addition, the game supports online servers, local cooperative play, and Lua mods created by the community.
