1. Game Background & Objective
Background: A pirate ship has been wrecked, and the crew has fallen into the sea. You must control a lone survivor as he climbs the crumbling main mast to escape the rising water.
Objective: Climb as high as possible, collect coins along the way, and avoid all horizontal obstacles (booms).
Game Over: Upon hitting an obstacle, the pirate falls into the water. The game ends and your score is tallied.
2. Core Controls
Climbing Mechanic: The pirate automatically climbs the mast at a constant speed. (Alternatively, the mechanic could be that the player taps or holds to accelerate climbing, depending on development settings). The default setting is a steady, automatic ascent.
Left/Right Movement: Players tap the left or right side of the screen (or use device tilt/swiping) to move the pirate between the left and right sides of the mast. This is essential for dodging incoming horizontal booms.
3. Core Game Elements
The Mast (Climbing Path): The central vertical mast is the pirate's only handhold. The pirate can only cling to its left or right side.
Horizontal Obstacles (Booms):
These obstacles randomly extend from the left or right side of the screen, blocking the climbing path.
The pirate must switch to the opposite side of the mast to avoid them. For example, if a boom appears from the left, the pirate must move to the right side.
Gold Coins:
Coins are randomly placed on either side of the mast or floating in the air nearby.
They are collected automatically when the pirate passes them. Coins are often positioned to create risk/reward scenarios, such as in dense obstacle areas or places requiring quick side-switching.
4. Game Progression & Difficulty Curve
Early Game: Obstacles are sparse, and coins are plentiful. This phase helps players get familiar with switching sides.
Mid Game: The frequency of booms increases, and consecutive obstacles may appear on the same side, testing the player's reaction time.
Late Game (Climax): Booms appear in complex patterns, such as emerging from both sides simultaneously (forcing the player to find a narrow gap) or having coins attached directly to the booms (high risk, high reward).
5. Collision Detection & Scoring
Failure Condition: The game ends if any part of the pirate touches a horizontal boom.
