About Orkiestrownik

English

The “Orkiestrownik” orchestra guide is an innovative guide to classical music

The “Orkiestrownik” orchestra guide is an innovative guide to classical music in the form of a free mobile application. A step-by-step introduction to the world of the orchestra, the application shows its instruments, musicians, the conductor, a rehearsal and a concert. The bulk of the guide is formed by the “Virtual orchestra” section, whose core is composed of a multi-channel recording of Maurice Ravel’s Bolero—a ravishing and popular piece which allows each orchestra instrument a moment in the spotlight. The application enables users to follow the composition bar by bar, either as a dynamic score or a graphic layout and a shining map of instruments. One may simultaneously watch the orchestra perform and follow the work of its conductor. A single click allows users to listen to a selected instrument and see how it is played by musicians. Or find out how long they wait for their big moment…

Each instrument of the modern symphony orchestra is featured in films and texts. The application contains 25 showcases, from the violin through the trumpet, the harp, and the snare drum. “Orkiestrownik” also features musicians of the exquisite Sinfonia Varsovia who talk about their work, passion, and the pros and cons of an artistic career.

The application also includes bookmarks covering the conductor, a rehearsal and a concert. Users are guided by the irreplaceable, colorful and dynamic maestro Jerzy Maksymiuk, who explains the role of the conductor, the reasons behind rehearsals, and the structure of the orchestra. Also featured in the application is a funny film about philharmonic hall etiquette, a quiz with prizes, and a library of recordings which encourages users to listen to compositions by Beethoven, Bartók and Dębski.

The application was produced by the Institute of Music and Dance (IMiT), the National Audiovisual Institute (NInA). Executive producers: Netigen Kluzowicz sp. j. Financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

The application is only available in Polish.
