Most to-do apps let you collect work. Collecting feels productive, so the list grows, and choosing becomes its own exhausting decision. Some days you stare at fourteen items and close the app having done none of them.

One Thing removes the list entirely. You choose a single task for today. When it's done, the day is done — the app doesn't hand you an empty box and ask for another. There is nowhere to put a second task, so there is nothing to decide except starting.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Write down your one thing.

2. Give it a timer, count the time openly, or skip timing altogether.

3. Finish it. That's the whole app.

A FOCUS TIMER THAT ACTUALLY WORKS

Pick 15, 25, 45 or 60 minutes, or set your own. You get an alert five minutes before time runs out, and again when it does — even if the app is closed and your screen is off.

The countdown is tracked against the real clock, so it stays exactly right whether you switch apps, take a call, or restart your phone. No drifting, no silently wrong timers.

Run over and nothing is lost: the timer keeps counting, and the task still counts as finished. Finishing late is finishing.

FOR THE DAYS THE OVERWHELM WINS

Choosing is one problem. Starting is another. Alongside your task you can note the smallest first move — the one action that needs no plan — and the app keeps that in front of you instead of the whole mountain.

Set something yesterday and never got to it? The app asks whether it is still today's one thing. Picked the wrong thing? Drop it: it doesn't count as done and it doesn't touch your streak. No app should make you lie to it.

Every finished day fills a dot on a five-week calendar, so the run you are building is visible at a glance — along with the gaps, which is what makes it worth protecting. A habit tracker for exactly one habit.

Today always counts as in progress, so your streak is never at risk while the day is still young. It breaks only once a whole day has gone by with nothing finished.
