KERRY HOSPICE FOUNDATION - Mission Statement

The mission of the Suaimhneas centre/Palliative Care Unit and the Health Service Executive is to support patients and their families from county Kerry with advanced diseases requiring palliative care to attain the best quality of life.

WHAT IS THE KERRY HOSPICE FOUNDATION (KHF)?

The Kerry Hospice Foundation (KHF) was established in 1990 as a voluntary organisation. The Kerry Home Care Team was founded by the KHF in conjunction with the Southern Health Board and with some funding from the Irish Cancer Society.

The Foundation funds a wide range of palliative care services in Kerry. These include counselling services (e.g. bereavement) and alternative therapies, such as reflexology, aromatherapy, reikii.

THE KHF - It provides funding for:

Refurbishing hospice rooms in some of the community hospitals

Specialist palliative care medicines

Patients who require palliative care stay in designated nursing homes and district hospitals in Kerry.

Palliative Care equipment, aids and appliances.

Extra financial support for patients and their families.

Ongoing education of Nurse Specialists in Palliative Care

Extra nursing care, including night nurses and out-of-hours nursing

A new Specialist Palliative Care Day Treatment Unit.
