Experience the historical evolution of one of America’s great small cities from pre-colonial times to present day – through rich multi-media content that includes hundreds of vintage images that relate to preserved landmarks in Frederick’s magnificent historic district. The tour’s unique production approach draws from both national and local, human perspectives. The Frederick Walking Tour is comprised of seven mini tours, with each tour dedicated to a specific theme and timeline, with stops that are located in close proximity to one another. Other features include a video on use of the app, GPS tracking and a written transcript of each tour stop for the hearing impaired.

Tour themes include:

1.The Trail (1720 - 1755) – The path to Frederick’s founding

2. Street of Dreams (1755 – 1920) – The evolution of an American main street

3. Colonial History (1750 – 1790) –From revolution to independence

4. The Civil War (1860 – 1865) – Slavery, secession, and strife

5. 20th Century Frederick (1900 – 1930) – Frederick’s evolution as a modern city

6. African American History (1865 – 1964) – From segregation to civil rights

7. Frederick’s Rebirth (1976 – Present) – The city’s rise from devastation
