Find a Kadai is a crowd sourced guide to Chennai’s incredible street food scene.

Find a Kadai is a crowdsourced mobile app to discover and find the best street food joints in Chennai. The pulse of a city lies in its food and Find A Kadai hopes to popularise the best street food joints in Chennai and make them more tourist friendly by crowdsourcing not just the popularity but also their hygiene standards.

The app lets a user find the closest street food joints, find out the top 5 food items to try at each stall and filter by availability of dustbins and the use of clear water.

The app aims to crowdsource data about all the kadais in the city (where max. price < Rs.150). The coconut stall vendors, the chilli bajji shops on the best, the ghee podi dosa in the corners of T-nagar and the aaloo chat in the heart of Sowcarpet is what we hope to discover through this app.

Over the next few months, the FAK team will lead food trails in different parts of Chennai and populate the app with some of the best street food joins in each area!

Over time the aim is to be able to increase the hygiene standards of the street food vendors, allow for ways of stable monetisation (SMS alerts for kadai owners in local languages based on demand - micro analytics), health insurance and other benefits and hopefully drive policy changes in favour of them (in light of the frequent evictions). And added benefit would be the addition of the word "kadai" to the global dictionaries :).
