The translation was made by 47 scholars members of the Church of England.
It was the third translation into English approved by the English Church authorities (after the Great Bible of King Henry VIII and the Bishops Bible of 1568). The Authorized Version was meant to replace the Bishop’s Bible as the official version for readings in the Church of England.
