Light Vehicle Apprenticeships are changing dramatically and there is a period of transition between old and new, resulting in some uncertainty. The author of this guide was actively involved in writing the new Apprenticeship Standard and clearly answers the questions posed while guiding the apprentice through each stage of their apprenticeship.

It goes through the End-point Assessment Process with hints and tips of how to get the most out of each assessment, as well as giving some insight into the thinking behind the tests. Also included is an Essential Reading Plan which highlights the main information that the apprentice will need during their apprenticeship.

The author of this guide has worked in the automotive and further education sector for many years. He Chaired the Automotive Retail Employer (Trailblazer) Group and worked as a trainer and assessor for PSA Apprenticeship Programme and IQA and Operations Manager for Jaguar Land Rover Apprenticeship Programme. Before entering training he progressed through all the areas of the service department, including Workshop, Supervision and Customer Service, and for a number of years ran his own vehicle repair company.

This guide covers versions 1, 2 and 3 of the Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (Light Vehicle) Apprenticeship Standard Assessment Plan. It is written primarily for apprentices but Training Providers, trainers and assessors may also find it useful as it contains a wealth of knowledge that can be easily accessed at their fingertips.
