Identify objects using NFC tags, for the visually impaired or Alzheimer's.
The Identify application allows you to place NFC tags onto objects, scan it with your NFC enabled smart phone and record a voice clip to identify the object.Then when you next scan that object your voice clip will be played back.
Some possible uses for this application:
Visually Impaired people could use the app to identify things that are hard to differentiate by touch, for example:
Salt & pepper pots
Remote controls
Similar shaped shoes but of different colours
Ketchup and other sauce bottles
Tablet/Pill boxes
etc
People with Alzheimer's, dementia or memory problems could use this app to identify photographs.
Attach a NFC tag to the back of a photo (wall mounted, desk or in an album) and record a clip of information about the person/people in the photo.
Equipment Identification - Stick a NFC tag to your routers or servers so you can scan and identify them.
Requirements
1) A smart phone that supports NFC
This is needed to read the NFC tags
2) A smart phone with an SD card (or external memory that acts as an SD card)
This is needed to store the voice clips
3) Some NFC tags that work with your smart phone
Go to Amazon and search for NTAG203 - you should be able to get a pack of 10 stickers for just over £6 (at the time of writing)
How to use:
1) Attach an NFC tag to an object you wish to identify.
2) Scan the object with your phone, the app will automatically start
3) Press the Record button and record a description, press Stop when done
4) The next time you scan the NFC tag your voice clip will be played.
