When you go through the Piet Hein tunnel on the A10 and turn right into the Piet Heinkade you experience it right away. This broad lane, lined on the right-hand side with a mixture of historic warehouses, sleek futureproof apartment hotels and offices, does not feel very Dutch somehow. The main entrance is south facing, on the side of the city centre. The other side of the building overlooks the IJ and is located right on the quay.
