Welcome to Canterbury’s Nurseries

Canterbury’s Children’s Nurseries on are conveniently located in Heaton and Smithills and cater for childen at different development stages:

Canterbury’s 1 Nursery on Eastbourne Grove in Heaton, has been established since 1991 and caters for children from 2 to 5 years.

Canterbury’s 2 Nursery on Kingswear Drive in Smithills, was established in 2010 and takes children from birth to 5 years.

Both Nurseries are owned and managed by Carolyn Hutton who has a degree in Early Year’s education and Early Years Professional Status, and Vincent Merritt, NVQ 3 Childcare, Learning and Development.

The settings have many well qualified staff, including graduate leaders, and both are proud to have been awarded an ‘Outstanding’ mark by Ofsted.

Canterbury’s 1 and 2 offer a ‘Before and After’ School Club, service until 6pm, offering a full range of activities for primary school age children.

Carolyn and Vinny have their own children working in the nurseries, and are proud of their family run business and the high quality care and education they offer. Canterbury’s nurseries and out of school clubs are flexible, affordable, and outstanding in all areas.

Building relationships from the early years

The most fundamental factor of ‘The Canterburys Way’ is to make everyone feel welcome.

Through many years of experience, Canterburys have learnt that by making parents and children feel relaxed right from the start, is the best way to build positive relationships, as everyone plays an important role on a child’s journey during their most influential years.

Families as partners and a homely environment

A nursery should be seen as a natural extension to a child’s home, where they can feel equally relaxed, uninhibited and gently prepare them for social interactions with others. Younger children must have access to soft furnishings, sofas and cushions which reflect their home life, and learn through tactile touch.

Canterbury s appreciate that children are competent, strong and inquisitive with a desire to explore from birth. They also need to feel love and security within the right environment, with resources and knowledgeable adults and other children to help them develop their full potential and social skills.

Canterbury s Children’s Nurseries provide rich opportunities for learning and attaining life skills. We set up an exciting and stimulating environment allowing children to choose what they want to do, with experienced staff nearby to guide them.

At Canterbury s, children are free to express themselves and be extremely creative. They can choose their own activities, materials and objects they want to explore, and encouraged by fully-qualified staff who’ll work closely with them as their key person, as well as a range of specialists including a Dance Teacher, Music Teacher and Artist.
