A gear or cogwheel is a rotating machine part having cut teeth or cogs, which mesh with another toothed part in order to transmit torque, in most cases with teeth on the one gear being of identical shape and often also with that shape on the other gear. There are many types of gears such as spur, helical etc. Spur gear the most common type used. Tooth contact is primarily rolling, with sliding occurring during engagement and disengagement. Helical gear is a cylindrical shaped gear with helicoids teeth. Helical gears operate with less noise and vibration than spur gears. At any time, the load on helical gears is distributed over several teeth, resulting in reduced wear. They are widely used in industry.
