About eTraffic Police Sri Lanka

Public can report traffic violations/obedience cases with media evidence.

According to the increasing population and the number of vehicles, it is impossible to deploy large police forces to reduce the violations to the traffic law. Therefore, an official app is a timely requirement so that police can enforce the general. Also, this can act as an empowerment tool. At the moment, many people share traffic violations videos via social media and personal groups unofficially. This should not happen like this. This should be available for everyone to use at any time. These actions conclude that there is a need in the community for official reporting mechanisms so that they can make roads a safer place for all of us. So that, our proposed application enables the general public to report traffic violations or traffic obedience cases along with media evidence and its location.

The web based application platform and Android/iOS application are being set up. Through the app, the users can capture traffic violations in addition to the traffic cop. Where the user can take pictures/videos through the mobile application and send to the database in the traffic HQ in real time with the location. But this app functionality is subjected to the Motor Traffic (Amendment) Act (No. 40 of 1984) and Evidence (Special Provisions) Act. No. 14 of 1995. This is currently restricted to users as there should not be a possibility to upload the edited videos/images.

Users can also give suggestions or comment through the application itself. Then it will connect with the centralised system installed in the police IT division and traffic HQ so that the operation team can initiate the actions similar to 119 service. Operations team can report it to the nearest police station and monitor the progress. During the process the system collects geographic and demographic information so that the police can do a detailed analysis about the violations and take it to the policy decisions. Once the case is resolved the user will be notified with the status of the action and the admin comment.
