Durga

Durga is the principle form of the female goddess in Hinduism and is also known as Devi and Shakti. Durga the mahashakti, the form and formless, is the root cause of creation, preservation and annihilation. She manifested herself for the slaying of the Mahishasura from all the three gods, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. She is pure Shakti, and at times of distress, to protect the universe, she manifests herself via the gods. Goddess Durga is the one to turn to for removal of obstacles, help to overcome difficulties and to find solutions to our problems.

Though Durga, as the consort of Lord Shiva in her form of Parvati is a serene presence, as Kali she becomes the angry vanquisher of evil, with weapons in her many hands; she is at once the loving mother, and a terrifying force of righteous anger.
